Moto Jackets are a Fall staple that never goes away, partly because every woman should have a trusty leather jacket and this one doesn’t lose an ounce of cool. The first time I bought a moto jacket was my Freshman year of high school, I stumbled upon All Saints’ immense leather jacket selection and the rest is history. Since then, I have turned into a self-proclaimed moto jacket aficionado, and thought I would use this as an opportunity to share some of my style tips:
How do you choose which brand to wear?
With SO many brands selling moto jackets nowadays, the decision-making process becomes harder. I search for brands that specifically specialize in leather jackets. For example, I wouldn’t go to Sam Edelman looking for anything but shoes, even though they have branched out into outerwear. I know that brands focused on making leather jackets will yield a better quality product that can, in turn, be worn for a lifetime.
What about the color?
Ahhh this is a hard one, especially because moto jackets come in an array of different colors. I try to shop for classic colors as opposed to trendy ones: the oxblood moto jacket I am wearing in this post is an often coveted classic color. I would also recommend sticking to darker colors as the weather can be unpredictable in the Fall/Winter and you don’t want something that damages easily.
Faux or real leather?
I think this really depends on the occasion and most importantly your style ethics. I can go both ways, but if I am buying real leather, I’ll look for a vintage jacket because I love the distressed look. Other times, I want a jacket that looks sleek and polished, which is when I’ll search for faux leather. I’d say my moto jacket collection is split 50/50 between the two types of leather.
