There are some trends in fashion you just can’t help but jump on the bandwagon for. One, in particular, is the newsboy cap, a cool downtown style of headwear that is breaking fashion news. The cap is most commonly associated with newspaper boys and was officially adopted into fashion by style icons in the ’60s and ’70s. Think Jane Birkin, Jean Shrimpton, and Edie Sedgwick. Now you have supermodels Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Stella Maxwell bringing it back into the limelight.
I wouldn’t call myself a hat person, in fact, I rarely wear hats because they are out of my comfort zone. My issue with hats was not knowing how to style them or being afraid of over-accessorizing. Recently I have pushed myself out of comfortability and tried this cap everyone seems to be digging. What I like most about this subtle cap is that it isn’t over-sized, something about wearing wide-brimmed statement hat freaks me out. Thankfully we are ditching them for this season’s better alternative!
Think of the newsboy cap as the new Fedora. It is going to be your favorite essential come the warmer months. The best part about this trend is it can be rocked in a million different ways. I chose the edgier route with this outfit, incorporating my new favorite Dr. Martens into the look. But you can also wear a newsboy cap with a flowy Summer dress. There aren’t many rules to sporting this cool cap other than having fun with it!
