Knit Wit Philadelphia Boutique

Located on one of Philadelphia’s prime shopping streets, 17th and Chestnut Street, Knit Wit has been around for almost 50 years. It is THE destination for multigenerational European and American clothing, ranging from urban chic to feminine classic styles. Upon entering the boutique for my first time, I was greeted by a lady named Ann and she graciously encouraged me to take a look around as she continued to diligently merchandised a rack of clothes. Her outfit emphasized the aesthetic of the boutique and she undoubtedly had to be the owner. The store was a product of her vision and I couldn’t help but ask: ‘How did you start Knit Wit?’ Accepting my curious nature, she chuckled and told me that she used to be a “hippy” that needed a job, so she started working as a sales associate at Knit Wit and has been there ever since…

After hearing her story, I was galvanized to get a closer look at the store. The clothes are organized by designer but are merchandised in a way that if you are looking to complete outfit, whether it be casual or dressy, you can find it effortlessly. They carry a multitude of contemporary designers, discovering some of my favorites to be Paul Smith and Alexander Wang. In addition, there is one section of the store that has high-quality basics in unique silhouettes that can be synchronized with all styles.

Nowadays, when online shopping is taking over the in-store experience, I am even more appreciative of those who take the time to design a space that successfully conserves the authenticity of it. Starting from chalkboard quotes that guide you through the store to a treasure chest of vintage jewelry… To make matters even better, Ann and her team are constantly in New York and Europe attending trade shows and buying new fashions for their three store locations in the tri-state area, including an online boutique collaboration with Farfetch. This boutique it is all about the “real” details when it comes to shopping! P.S. If you are in the Philadelphia area and want to stop by, their selection of beachwear for the summer is amazing!
